Children of Edward Sanders and Jane Draper.

I have already covered the lives of the two eldest Sanders children, Thomas and Jane, both of whom emigrated to Australia in 1849, so I will start here with child number three, Henry Sanders....

Henry Sanders was baptised at St. Andrews, Enfield, on September 30, 1832, and grew up in Chase Side. In the 1841 census he was an eight year old boy living with his parents and four siblings at Chase Side, Enfield. Ten years later, Henry was still living in Chase Side, but had moved out of home and was sharing a residence with 26 year old carpenter William Armstrong. The notation "lodgers together" was written in response to 'relation to head of family' next to William Armstrong's name.

On 22 October, 1854, Henry married Mary Ann Asher, the daughter of Thomas and Ann Asher.By 1861 Henry and his young family were living at 59 King Street, Shoreditch. Henry was working as a labourer at a gas factory, supporting five year old Elizabeth Jane, 3 year old Mary Ann and 10 month old Henry Charles.
By 1871, Henry's family had expanded, his children living at their residence in Old Road, Enfield, being: Mary Ann 13; Henry Charles 11; William 9; Caroline 3 and Jane 1. Henry's occupation was given as 'dealer'.

Henry appears for the last time on the census of 1881. He and his family were still living in Old Road, Enfield, and Henry was a 'green grocer and hawker'.Living at home were 18 year old William Edward, brickmaker; Caroline Jane, 13, working at a jute factory;11 year old Jane and 9 year old Alfred, both scholars.

Henry Sanders died the following year. He was buried in the parish of St. James, Enfield Highway, on July 30, 1882, aged 49. His abode was noted as being Old Road, Enfield Highway.
