David Draper, brother of Jane Draper Sanders.

David Draper was the third and last child born to David Draper, cordwainer/ shoemaker, and his wife Jane Catling. He was baptised on June 28, 1816, at St. Andrews, Enfield.
Not much has been discovered about David Draper. In the 1841 and 1851 census returns he can be found with his family in Enfield, and in the latter his occupation is given as 'grocer'. In a post office directory for that time there is:
"David Draper, grocer, Chase Side
Henry Draper, boot maker, Chase Side"
By the 1861 census, David has married and has a daughter:
Chase Side, Enfield
David Draper/head/ 44/ grocer/ born Enfield
Mary Draper/ wife/ 44/ born Clerkenwell
Jane Draper/ 2/ daughter/ born Enfield
John R. Magar/ nephew/7/ born St Clement Danes
As a matter of interest, four houses away lived Richard and Lydia Freeman. When Lydia died, Richard remarried, and his new wife was recently widowed Jane Draper Sanders, the sister of David Draper.
Jane Draper, the daughter of David and Mary Ann, had disappeared from the family by the time the 1871 census came around. Investigation shows that she died at the age of four years, in 1862. She was buried at St. Andrews, Enfield, on November 7, 1862.
Sadly, David and Mary Ann had no further children. In 1871 their household consisted of:
Enfield, Chase Side.
David Draper/ head/ 54/ retired grocer/ born Enfield
Mary A Draper/ wife/ 54/ born London.
1881: Alpha Cottages, Chase Side, Enfield.
David Draper/ head/ 64/ retired grocer/ born Enfield
Mary A Draper/ wife/ 64/ retired grocer's wife/ born Enfield
1891: Alpha Cottages, Enfield.
David Draper/ head/ 74/ living on own means/ born Enfield
Mary A Draper/ wife/ 74/ born Enfield
David Draper died on December 11, 1897, at Chase Side, Enfield, aged 85 years. Probate of his will was granted to John Strange Stribling, grocer, and his effects amounted to 57 pounds and 17 shillings.
David's wife Mary Ann Draper passed away on January 1, 1903. Probate of her will was also granted to John Strange Stribling, and amounted to 2,633 pounds 9 shillings and 4 pence.
In the 1901 census, two years before her death, Mary A. Draper was still living at Alpha Cottages, Chase Side. She was an 84 year old widow, born Clerkenwell. Living with her was an attendant, Ellen Budd.
